With the approach of the Spring Equinox , we go 3 full days in Iceland. It’s been a while since I look and admire the pictures taken in this country. It is also been a while that I, or rather that we want to see an aurora. So as an appetizer, we will visit the south west of Iceland, or at least a part.
Our plane takes off from Roissy at 1:30 PM for 3 hours and a half flight. It is a relatively close destination for a fairly significant change of scenery.
Arrived at Keflavik, Reykjavik Airport, we get our rental car … at least not so quickly. We wait a good twenty minutes for someone to come pick us up and take us to the site owner. This let me enough time to buy a local sim card with a 3G plan. It is not very expensive and it allows us to use Google Maps to guide us.
First point out of the airport: a strong wind! We get our 4×4 and we head towards Vik. And I confirm that it is really windy because I hardly let go of the steering wheel all the way (about 3 hours). We also got a small snow storm … We feel immediately the atmosphere!
The guest house where we will spend the next 3 nights is really pretty, well appointed and friendly. There are 4 bedrooms and a large living room-kitchen in which we share breakfast. Once installed, we go in a small restaurant in the nearest city Vik to have dinner.
Tomorrow, the discovery begins!
